Making a Ghostbuster
Follow the standard character creation rules found in the Fate Core rulebook, pages 35-56. Note, while every skill is important to the game, the following are ways in which the skills can be used specifically in a Ghostbusters game:
Athletics – Dodging ghosts, projectile vomit, etc. Secondary intiative stat.
Burglary – Breaking and entering as well as hacking and security type stuff.
Contacts – So you don’t speak ancient Sumerian but need that tablet translated?
Crafts – No, you don’t have a ‘net’ setting on your slimeblower… yet.
Deceit – Smooth talking your way out of (or into) situations, bluffing, disguise, sleight of hand falls under this as well.
Drive – Turn the sirens on and take the ECTO-1 out to the call!
Empathy – “The emotional Notice skill”. Also used to help others recover from social and mental consequences (such as “scared shitless”, for instance. Ghosts: they’re scary!)
Fighting – Fisticuffs, weapons, karate… probably not super useful against ectoplasmic entities. But maybe you’ll get to use your women’s self defense class stuff against a hellhound?
Intimidation – One of the mental attack skills. Many ghosts will have a bunch of this. Remember? They’re scary.
Investigation – Learning things! Making sense of the PKE meter’s readings (which tells you how badass the bad guys are) uses this skill. Can also be used to learn more about who a ghost was in life, should you so desire and should it ever come up
Lore – In addition to the obvious “I know about ghosts!” thing, this represents all areas of knowledge. If you want to be able to say “Back off, man, I’m a scientist!” with any shred of credibility, you’ll need some of this. (If you don’t care about credibility, direct your attention to the Deceit skill, mentioned earlier)
Notice – Pretty much what it says on the box. This is your ability to “notice” things such as the car running that red light, the spectral tiger about to pounce on you and so on. If you wear Ecto-Goggles you can even Notice ghosts before they manifest! Also? Primary initiative skill.
Physique – Just how big and burly you are. Also how many hits you can take before you’re down for the count. Also also, the tertiary initiative skill.
Rapport – How to win friends and influence people. Handy to have for Public Relations. Speaking of which, this is the stat that your Franchise uses to determine it’s PR stress track!
Resources – Money! Riches! Also, the skill your Franchise uses to determine it’s Finances stress track.
Shooting – Exactly what it says on the tin. If you have a proton pack or a slimeblower, you can even shoot ghosts!
Stealth – For sneaky ghostbusters (and sneaky ghosts) (and batman). Also used for blending into a crowd and slipping away unnoticed.
Will – Physique for your mental track.
